Resident Wanted

Eugene and the U of O

Eugene Oregon Eugene--The Emerald City
Eugene resides at the center point of Lane County, bordered on the west by the Oregon's expansive coastline and on the east by the Pacific Coast Trail of the Cascade mountain range. Given this pristine setting there are numerous outdoor pursuits--from exploring the sand dunes of Honeyman Park to rafting on the McKenzie River to downhill skiing at Willamette Pass--all within a few hours of each other.

While its landscape is diverse and fascinating, so are its people. Eugene acts as a kind of crossroads of lifestyle, dress and thought, providing alternatives for just about everyone and unmatched opportunity to practice respect for those diversities. You see it all in Eugene, and the city celebrates its laid-back, easy-going style.

Along with Springfield, its sister city to the east, the two cities boast over 210,000 citizens and growing. Eugene's is known for it sport's affinity; nicknamed "Track Town, USA," and playing host to the US Olympic Trials for 2008 and 2012, along with being the hometown of Nike.

The University of Oregon
Eugene is also home to Oregon's flagship liberal arts university with over 20,000 undergraduates and graduates. Founded in 1876 the University of Oregon now spreads over 300 acres with 60 major buildings. U of O boasts a reputation for excellence. Many fields, such as journalism, business, architecture, music, science, law and education are well-known around the state and throughout the nation.

The Willamette River runs through the north side of campus providing habitat for  abundant water life, as well as inspiration for U of O's mascot, the Fighting Duck, given life on campus by the Disney character, Donald Duck.

Oregon's academic reputation is matched by its athletic accomplishments. People around the Pac-10 and indeed the nation; know the Ducks come to play. Along with a world-class college football stadium, the country's best track and field facilities and soon-to-be new basketball arena and baseball park, U of O boasts tremendous venues for a myriad of sports pursuits. Indeed the inside of Oregon's well-know logo represents Hayward Field's track and the outside outlines Auzten stadium's grandstands.

The combination of a beautiful campus plus a reputation for excellence in education and sports, makes the University of Oregon a destination of choice among students all over Oregon, the nation, and beyond. For a little more on "Duck Pride" just check out this short movie clip.
